The 1/2 Cent sales tax has a 40-year history


The Sales Tax has funded numerous improvements in public works, public safety, parks, technology, and cooperative infrastructure projects with Cole County. 

public works

The 1/2 cent Sales Tax funds the street overlay program, has improved traffic flow at several key intersections, construction and repair of sidewalks, improvements to the stormwater system, and much more.

public safety

The Sales Tax funded a relocation and new fire facility for Station 2. It also funded an upgrade to the fire department’s communications and fire truck leases. The police department received funding for equipment replacement and funding for an emergency response vehicle. 

Parks

The Sales Tax allowed for the continued development of and repairs to our Greenway Trail. It also funded the Washington Park Pickleball Courts, Memorial Park Pavilion renovation, park improvements, and more.

Technology

The Sales Tax has funded IT equipment, phone system upgrades, improvements to the GIS system, database improvements, and more.

city-county projects

Examples of these projects include the Wildwood Drive extension, Monroe Street/Dunklin Street intersection, Chestnut Street Extension, Capital Area Rail Terminal and previous projects like the Dunklin Street bridge, East High Street reconstruction,  construction of Cavalier Drive, and more.

Prior 1/2 cent projects

Examples include:  Lafayette Street interchange, East McCarty improvements, Mission Drive at 179, Stadium Blvd improvements at Monroe/Christy/Jefferson, Cityview interchange, Police vehicle replacements, construction of new fire stations and renovations to existing.
